FORMS OF ADDRESS

General principles of protocol

The use of titles follows precise rules. These rules vary according to rank, function, context (spoken, written, official, private), and sometimes according to timing (current or former position).

In case of doubt, the basic rule is restraint and respect for the highest title held.
